voted yes for the amendment to prohibit public funding of abortion except in cases of illness ,rape , or incest.
I may be pro-choice but i don't believe taxpayer money should pay for abortions.

This makes me sad, but it seems to be the popular opinion around where I live too. Restrictions on what kind of abortion is "okay" just seems so iffy to me in addition to the funding. I know this is a bit off the issue here, but I just get scared when a bunch of middle aged white men try to define and limit what rape is, and I think things like this don't help. I guess I can see people who aren't pro-choice not wanting to pay for them, but meh, my money goes to a lot of things I don't support. I also don't care for pro-choice people who seem to be pro-choice, except for...

Not saying this is you, but I'm just projecting here haha. Abortions can be expensive, and I'd rather my money go to help pay for one than a woman have a baby she doesn't want or have an unsafe abortion because she can't terminate. Do you support taxpayer money going towards birth control?

On that issue my fiscal libertarianism came into conflict with my social libertarianism and my fiscal side won.
I didn't vote out of a bibical "abortion is evil" standpoint like most people who are going to vote that way are , but i don't think taxes should go to bailing out someone for being irresponsible and not using the resources our taxes already pay for like sex ed classes , condoms , and birth control.

Like i said i know it was an unpopular choice but i had to stick to my guns on that one

Condoms are not 100% (especially some of the free ones they give out), and we need to give better sex ed in school, because no grown adult is running down to PP to read about sex in pamphlets.

I think in New York, we might have an initiative up for vote on the ballot which would make casino gambling legal statewide. It came about after Gov. Cuomo, Mayor Bloomberg, and the borough presidents decided building a casino in Coney Island would help out the area. Never heard whether it was made official or not though.

that sounds awesome.
But do you think legal gambling in nyc would hurt or help the mob?

Not in agreement with you here. So you're pro-choice only for women who can afford the abortion?
Why should I pay for someone to have an abortion (unless in a case of rape)? If someone willingly has sex and gets pregnant, that's there problem. If they can't afford an abortion, should have used some protection.

Why does this suddenly make you want to pay for an abortion?

Well first off, most abortions are not for rape cases, so it would be a significantly lower volume and less money out of my pocket. Second, rape victims obviously are not getting knocked up by choice, and in that case I can sympathize if they don't have the money to afford an abortion. If you're willingly choosing to take the risk though, then it's up to you to deal with the outcome.

How much are you currently contributing to pay for abortions?

How much are you currently contributing to pay for abortions?
It's not about how much I'm currently paying, it's about if there is public funding for all abortions, then I will be paying more than if it is only for cases of rape. It might not be a huge amount, but everything adds up and if I supported every social program that came through, I would have no money left. So it's not really about the money for this one specific cause, but more so just my general beliefs. I'm not going to pay for something that I don't think is a worthy cause, even if it is a small amount of money. Which is why I don't support public funding for anyone to get an abortion, because in my opinion, there's a certain risk that needs to be assessed when you partake in anything and if you're not willing or capable of dealing with the outcomes of that choice, then that is something you should have thought about beforehand. I'm not going to give away my money for every little mistake someone else makes with their life.

You can't say this.

So can I not pay for the wars we're in? Or for the tax breaks oil companies receive? Is there a sheet I fill out that gives me options of which things I'd like to contribute towards?

Sure, there's a certain risk in anything you do. You enter into a social contract by living here. This country is designed to make sure one mistake doesn't ruin their lives. I'm sorry you're not in favor of that just so you can hang on to a couple dollars.

http://www2.tbo.com/news/politics/20...-li-ar-519100/

that privacy clause was nowhere on the ballot.. might of reconsidered then.

It's mistitled, and it's misleading," said B.J. Star, president of the West Pinellas National Organization for Women. "What is this 'Construction of Abortion Rights'? There's already a prohibition on public funding. That's one of the things that will grab the voter's attention, but it will take them down the wrong road
Quote:
The second clause in the title refers to language in the amendment that would specifically remove abortion from Floridians' constitutional right to privacy
