whoa relax fellas i like the beatles a lot, yesterday is one of my favorite songs ever. still think they are extremely overrated(i like how this word automatically made people assume i dislike them). i just think they weren't as revolutionary and groundbreaking and should automatically be hailed as the greatest band of all time as we were programmed from birth from parents/media/everywhere to think. wasn't trying to be edgy, just stating an opinion. never even heard a frank turner song btw

I couldn't help it. And when I wrote that you were the first post I thought of.

This thread is just too much for me not to throw my hat in the ring. It's my duty to quote in here now.

Well, this is a good way for a relatively unknown artist to gain some attention. But I gotta agree with him on this; I've never cared for this song or most of Lennon's solo music. He described it perfectly, Lennon's solo music was just plain lazy. If John had not of been a Beatle, I doubt he would have ever been signed as a solo musician. Just my opinion.
relatively unknown? Dude just sold out a 12,500 seat arena earlier this year, he's doing ok.

Please don't crucify me for this post, but based on probably about the 15 Beatles song I've listened to and enjoyed, I've always thought if it wasn't for the Beatles becoming super-famous and influential, it would have been some other group that took off-- the world was just ready for some band to sweep it off its feet and the Beatles happened to be readily available.

So yeah, I guess I've always felt that they have this insane advantage where everybody says they're the best band in the world when really they're just a good band that had a massive spotlight on them.

As far as lyric subject matter goes, I honestly don't think world peace is that deep of a subject-- it's a pretty idealistic, obvious concept that is impossible to attain. Call me crazy, and this is just based off the Beatles songs I've heard, but I think artists like Bon Iver, Jose Gonzalez and even Brand New have touched on way more personal and introspective idea's.

Anyway, I don't want to downplay their importance, as at the very least they're probably the most influential band of all time; I just feel like it could have been any band that took off in the early 60's, and it happened to be them.
