yeah. I don't get it. you don't say "grocery bayg" so why should bagel be pronounced any differently?
"gh" makes a silent noise at the end of "through", but I don't call my sister Meaghan "Meh-han" . There are a million exceptions to how certain things are pronounced, although I agree that it is kind of annoying
