Haha damn! Looks like we have a bunch of producers in here!
I think David did an awesome job on the new record. Heavy music is the hardest music to get right if you're trying to sound unique and David's just the right kind of crazy to pull it off. So far I think the new record is sonically better than anything they've ever done, including everything I worked on, so KUDOS to Mr. Ludlow.
As far as the sonics of their previous records, you can go ahead and blame me - lord knows there are records I've done that I wish I could go back and re-mix, some of the Greeley stuff being a prime example (and Mr. Butts is right, there IS too much reverb on TDOGE - We thought it was a good idea at the time, ha ha). But if you want to make something that sounds sonically different from all of the other metal-core-ish music out there, you take that risk, and there will always be people that don't like it. I think it's great that they've continued to evolve throughout the years (no two GE records sound the same), all while being some of the greatest dudes on the planet. |
As I said above, I really like your style. Especially on BTF's His Last Walk, that album will always be a favorite and your production really helped cement that. The 808s really had an impact, the drumming felt full, the guitarwork was completely discernable - just amazing. People on this site expect everything to be squeaky clean or "artistically dirty" sounding. It's really annoying how people can't enjoy things how they are and be ok with a variety of production styles.
