because they have pre-recorded parts from their album playing along with them live, to re-create aspects of their "album sound" that would be impossible to replicate live. such as the sampled drum part you mentioned.

I understand that but I'm pretty sure he could either play it differently or play it exactly and still have that part sound similar. It's not like it's some clip of a funky drum machine..
