I think if the music were exactly the same for fun and Colplay but they went by a solo artist name, like Nate Ruess or Chris Martin then people would just call it pop music. David Gray's music is a lot like Coldplay but that's seen as pop music, though just now reading his wiki it says rock lol so maybe I'm wrong here.
