Okay, so let me tell you guys about this shit:

So we have this huge deadline of Dec 31st for this really important project at work. Since the beginning of November I've been working 10-12 hour days mon-fri and 6 hours on Saturdays. Out of mostly my own will, although they do make you feel guilty if you don't stay. So anyway, now the holidays are here and everyone in this fucking company gets Christmas Eve and New Years Eve off, making it a four day weekend. But, not us. Or so, we thought. Here's the thing, we need maybe one day left to finish it, everything after that is stuff that we have til the end of January to complete.

So, why the fuck do we need to be here on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve for work that doesn't have to be done? Like, we can't have one fucking day off after all is this time? I can't even get two days off in a row.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

They didn't tell us until FRIDAY that we had to come in. They made it sound, by wording and behavior that it was absolutely mandatory or we would get in trouble or something. I remember when one girl tried to get them to say it was "mandatory" they just hesitated and were like "well, you know, technically it is a work day, so yes and no but you have to come in" and just dicked around the whole thing.

Then my HR lady called my boss and I overheard her getting in trouble for basically giving us this short-notice impression that its MANDATORY we come in. It seemed to end with the fact that technically, she didn't say the word "mandatory", so I think that's why she didn't send out a type of correction and this is all just coming out now by all of us putting these pieces together. They just implied it.

And guess what, the fucking asshole supervisors and managers didn't even come in today. Why should they? They know its not mandatory, they couldn't even come in and face their employees for a few hours. Fuck them.

I'm so pissed, and beyond EXHAUSTED. I haven't had even two days in a row off, and I'm just pissed as shit they lied and that I'm fucking here when I just want to sleep and cry from tiredness. I need a break, and I'm so pissed that I'm here now. Fucking assholes, dude.

Wow that sucks. Don't go in on New Year's Eve if it's the same situation.
Also, can you just leave if there's no supervisors?

Technically, probably not. We work off a point system, you earn so many for tardiness or unexcused absences and I'm sure they'd figure out a way to point someone for leaving unexcused on a supposed "normal work day" when that person agreed that they would be here (not that it seemed that person had a choice.)

As far as New Year's, I'm going to definitely do something. I'm one of the most dedicated and reliable employees in their eyes and at least in the top 4 of people they need to stay every day & Saturdays so if they maintain that NYE is even the possibility of "mandatory" then I'll just tell them I'm not staying and killing myself all of the other days until then. Then as it gets closer I'll probably email my HR to tell me if it actually is mandatory or if i'll get marked.

The thing is, a lot of people actually said they'd come in today if given the option. But as soon as everything played out, it completely changes your outlook. Like, you don't have to lie and threaten us to do it if you already had us on your side. Now they've pissed everyone off.

at my place of work I am a shift supervisor with another girl and the store manager. The other shift supervisor sucks. she never shows up and has no idea what she's doing but of course she hasn't gotten fired

I was going to have tomorrow off and new years eve but thanks to her stupidity I have to work 19 out of the next 20 days

MERRY CHRISTMAS MOTHER FUCKER!!!

another one

(phone rings)
me: how may i help you
guy; why dont you have christmas stuff?
me: we do?
guy: where
me: in the store???
guy: why dont you have it in the windows like kmart??
me: i have no idea
guy: well maybe next year you will try harder
me: come in next year and you can do it for us (hangs up)

Such a great phone call. People are seriously stupid, it's amazing. Like, it's 2012, there's no excuse for that.

Mostly just wanted to let you know, I feel ya brother. This sucks. I don't really have any more sound advice other than, two months from now, we'll look back on this time and be like "hey, I survived and came out with a fatty check."

At least you're getting extra pay for the extra work. I'm salaried now so every minute I work over my scheduled time is just giving away money. It definitely makes me feel less generous about giving my time away when I'm forced into meeting tight deadlines.
Ugh yeah that does suck, I actually can't imagine being here long enough to be on a salary. That is the downside :/

So my coworkers and I have been working, voluntarily, crazy OT hours the last two months, including every Saturday (job is mon-fri) and including (mandatory) Christmas and New Years Eve while everyone else in the company got the day off, we're all so exhausted and decided to slow down a bit and catch our rest so we started staying less, since it was voluntary up to here. What do we get as a thanks for how much we've put in thus far, just as we're all cracking?

MANDATORY options of either 11 hours a day Monday-Friday or 8 hours Mon-Fri and 8 hours Saturday. Hardly an option if you ask me. How that makes sense is beyond me, since if you want two days off in a row (which we haven't had in, again, two months) you have to work TWICE as much overtime in the week just to earn it. They know we all want Saturdays off so that's how they get us. And do any of them show their faces for that much work? No. Meanwhile, the company motto remains: Here, we are family first, friends second, and employees last. But are they living by that motto at all right now? No. They always said how they care about us and are always willing to help out if we help them, and they will be understanding and will work with us through anything before having to resort to consequences. This is no longer true. They're being selfish, rude, careless, LAZY, ungrateful and completely uncompromising. I have to bring PROOF of my uncles memorial service on Friday night and proof that we are spreading his ashes on Saturday, lest I face the consequences of an unexcused absence during this mandatory overtime bullshit. Fuck them, seriously.

I'm so exhausted that I'm just pissed off when I finally earn my two days off, annoyed, and I just want to cry. I'm so mad. I would get another job out of sheer pissed-off ness if I didn't have a vacation coming up in March. Fuck, I'm tired.

How could you not laugh at that though? Even as I was reading this, I thought they were playing a joke on you or something at first since you were new. That is not a good name for something serious.

Hahahahah no, that is certainly not the name for something serious.

2 managers came, they were all imbecilic. When they started to explain their nonsense I simply stepped back and called the police. When the police came the walmart managers said "oh no i don't know what happened, the first ID was acceptable." I then called Walmart Head office and they offered me a $50 gift card, cheap fucks. I hate wal mart.
Curious, what did you tell the cops exactly? "Yeah, hi, Walmart won't take my ID?"

It's smart is what it is brother, they probably paid about $4 for a 48 pack by buying online. It's not like buying online means buying used hahahah.

I imagined you saying brother like Hulk Hogan lol. It was more money than that. Saving money is fine, but they order things like they're 400 lbs and can't leave the house. It's just odds and ends that are easily available through other means than the internet. Maybe I'm weird but when I saw the toilet paper today I just thought, you couldn't find toilet paper anywhere else?
Hahaha now I imagined myself saying in in my best Hogan. Anyways yeah, I guess I still see where they're coming from I mean I haven't bought toilet paper but I've bought almost anything else for like $1, you can save like 70% on anything if you buy online, especially in bulk. I get it!
