The band started off throwing a bunch of joke names out there. Sooner or later we came up with Get Well Cards and it kinda stuck. Later, we found out it was the name of a Conor Oberst song. Now, if you type our name into youtube, a million live versions of that song pop up. It’s pretty lame.
2. How did this band get started?
Mike, Dave, and I (Sam), worked on a soundtrack to a fake zombie film that was never made. The songs were built around different sad stories about a zombie apocalypse. Dave wrote a song about a man having to kill his wife, Mike recorded the whole thing, and I tried to rip off the Mountain Goats. Because of this, we decided to make a pop-punk band.
3. What bands are you influenced by?
We are rather limited by having one guitar, and even more hampered by having a poor guitar player, so we look to a lot of other three piece bands to get ideas for how to make everything sound full. The Lawrence Arms really opened the door for what we thought we could do with two singers and two different writing styles. A lot of what we do as a band tries to capture the feeling you get at a small punk show where everybody is buying into the songs and just singing their hearts out.
4. Why should people listen to your band?
If you’ve ever been in and out of a relationship, hated your job, thought things couldn’t get worse but somehow managed to keep a sense of humor about everything, our band is for you. We are just relatable dammit.
5. If you could be any athlete, which athlete would you switch places with?
Steve Kerr, former Chicago Bulls 3-Point Specialist. Nothing better than sitting back and bombing 3s.
6. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
Somehow, it would be amazing to bring CD booklets back. I remember buying a new CD and just pouring over the lyrics and pictures attached till I had everything memorized. You sat there and listened to the entire album over and over again. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Ipod, but the temptation to jump to any song at any time is just too great. I miss my booklets, and digital booklets suck.
7. Memorable tour experience?
I was in Alma, Arkansas. It was a quiet, dry town. The only place even open was the venue. Said venue had one bathroom. You had to cross the stage to get to it. It had a curtain to cover your shame. I was cool with it but the three girls in the band were less cool with it.
8. Any pre-show superstitions or rituals?
When we aren’t too drunk to remember, we like to huddle up on stage and yell “what time is it! Get Well Cards!” Yes, we stole it from the Jordan era Bulls. And yes, it is pretty much as lame as it sounds.
9. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
We really enjoy little bottles of Miller Lite. They are just flat out fun.
