On the discussion of Argo's racist undertones, I'm going to pull in this quote from Chris in the movie review thread, because it perfectly encapsulates how I feel about that particular accusation:

"I don't think Argo is particularly racist or anything, so much as it's just not telling their story. It's the story of Americans abroad trying to escape. And at that time, in that political climate, the Iranian people were hostile towards them. To not portray them as a threat when telling this story, in which they are the threat to the protagonists, would just be ineffective storytelling for the sake of being PC. I don't think there's anything in the film that purports to say anything about the Iranian people outside of that particular historical moment when they were likely to kill these particular characters were they to find them."

Haha, I had De Niro 'til the last minute. My gut was always telling me Waltz, and I switched it back right before I left. I picked 14 categories correctly. It was the screenplays and that goddamn tie that killed me.

I just couldn't get it out of my head that Waltz hasn't even been nominated by SAG and that, as a result, no one thought he would even get an Oscar nomination. But I'm seriously so happy he won.

Beyond that, I missed original screenplay, animated feature, production design, and the one with the tie. Think I got everything else.
