So, I've decided to make this topic after remembering a conversation I had with Jack a while ago. Basically what happened is he brought up the song "Seven Years" and I made a comment about how I thought it was the "scene kid" version of "Don't Stop Believing". You know, the song that comes on at a party and everyone sings it obnoxiously out of tune whether drunk or just enjoying themselves. And it made me wonder what the "Don't Stop Believing" of each genre was, so I wanted to open that to discussion with everyone. Does anyone have any examples of certain songs like that?

Recently I thought of the Ignition remix for R&B and "Can't Tell Me Nothing" or "Juicy" for hip-hop but both of those are obviously up for debate.

EDIT: Also if a staff member could add the "r" to "whatever" that I obviously forgot that would be cool. :/

Also thought of this because of Jason saying his girlfriend had never heard Oasis.

Was just discussing with a friend this song being one as well haha.

Also, I take back my hip hop choices and nominate "99 Problems".

Never want to go to a party where Seven Years is playing. Hip hop/pop is a different animal

I agree, and it's probably my least favorite part about having friends who still go to those kind of shows, hearing songs like that at parties of all places.

"Holland, 1945" for indie music? I wouldn't really know, as much as I like indie music, not many of my friends do. (And it wouldn't get played at parties)

I'd say more people know Holland, 1945 over Trailer Trash, I wouldn't even say that's the most popular Modest Mouse song. But, I'm just guessing. And I have no idea who sings Seven Years, don't think I've heard it. Edit: Oh, post above me says it's a Saosin song. Never really listened to them. Didn't think they were even that popular really.

The two songs that instantly came to my mind were; ****** In Paris and Mr Brightside

As long as people still sing it years from now, I think this'll be one too, and I have a feeling people will.

I can't imagine Seven Years (by Saosin) ever be played at a gathering let alone run into anyone in real life who even knows who Saosin is.

My life ^

And I love Saosin.

I've met like three irl people in my entire life who even know who they are.

One of you can take my place in Dallas and savor being around a ton of people who loved them.

I thought the focus was on modern songs. If other classics can be mentioned, too, I must drop this gem before I hit the hay:

Definitely.
