Good thread. Although I disagree with 7 years being the "Scene kid" anthem.
Even if we're discussing older "Scene music", stuff like Smile In Your Sleep or Ohio Is For Lovers is more anthemic.
Actually, come to think of it I think that Ohio Is For Lovers is unquestionably the scene kid "Don't Stop Believing". Not only does everyone in "the scene" know it, it was one of the biggest overall songs of the year.
I agree with your post to a point. I have thought a lot about the topic of this thread lately and I keep coming to the conclusion that either each year holds a song of significance and/or the choice will always vary person to person. I haven't done it yet, but I am sure I could pick out one song for each year or one song for each era of my life and make definitive choices. As far as just picking one song to sum it all up, I just don't think I could do that, and certainly believe it is different for everyone.
