Just listened. It's absolutely stunningly beautiful. I almost cried to "Colombia".
The first album was good, but I only really liked two or three tracks. Hummingbird is almost flawless. I wish I could go see them at Amoeba but I'm stuck at work :o/

Some of the melodies on this record are also very reminiscent of stuff that The Lonely Forest put out a few years ago

It's a grower. Definitely simpler in song pattern than their previous effort.

Great album. A lot of the lyrics on this album come out of the lead singer's mother dying last summer. You went into detail about a couple things but I think that event easily shaped this album the most. A much more somber record that really tears at your heart. Gorilla Manor was much more carefree which was great for a freshman release but, I think this album says much more about the band. Best of the short year so far.

I just received my vinyl yesterday, and I'm finding it very difficult to listen to anything else but Hummingbird! This album is much more mature then Gorilla Manor, and it is so God damn gorgeous! I'm really surprised with how much I adore this album, and it only gets better with each listen. Thank you Local Natives for creating this beautiful, and rapturous album. My ears will forever be grateful.

Only just got into this band with this album. Haven't been able to stop listening to it for weeks. Just saw them in Columbus on Tuesday night - amazing live show!
I think you meant that the guitar lead on "Black Balloons" is similar to the quick little pick/intro-thing on Bon Iver's "Michicant", never noticed it before reading the review.
