I'm surprised nobody said Freddie Mercury yet.

I don't think anyone's deaths have impacted the music industry more or less than anybody. It's just all very unfortunate.

I think if all of the Beatles were still alive then things might've been different as well.

Michael Jackson is the only death that has mattered since Jesus...and I'm not even positive that "Jesus" was really the son of God..or if there is a God...So Michael Jacksons death is the only one that mattered...ever...and Bruce Lee but that's another thread

Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Buddy Holly, Randy Rhodes, Gram Parsons and Brian Jones were all doing their best, most revolutionary work when they died. Has to be one of those. Who knows where they could have taken their respective genres with more time.

It really depends on what you mean by the music industry, doesn't it? I'd definitely have to say Buddy Holly, but I think Whitney Houston's death also had a very profound impact on a lot of people and I'm surprised no one has mentioned her yet.

Otis Redding's last song was "Dock of the Bay" and he was beginning to experiment with different styles and songwriting techniques. And he was only 26. Jesus, man.
