As a lifelong RK fan, this is unsettling to me. Obviously the pop culture references don't bug me, but the One Direction vibe scares the shit out of me. I heard they were going poppy on the next record, but uh, can we dial it back a bit?

The band's always been insanely poppy ... haha, this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.
Always been "poppy"? Yes. But this is like "Must of Done Something Right" sugar coated, run through the Top 40 simulator, and puked on by Max Martin. This goes from "being poppy" to just being pop.

You say life long fan, but they started their career making music that was super poppy. This song would be perfect (all be it at a much lower production quality) on 2 Lefts or Anatomy. I could honestly hear the album transition from college kids into this.
There isnt a song in their catalog that is this inorganic musically. Lyrically, yes this is reminiscent of old RK, but I dont see how anyone can compare this musically to their other work, this is far and away the most boybandish song they have ever released.
