so karl and ryan, You guys put up a trailer for the dvd that was planned on being released and its been at least a year or two since ive heard anything about it and the trailer is nowhere to be found on youtube so i was just wondering on the status of it and if you plan on still releasing it.
This is probably the most frequently asked question that we have received over the last year. Basically, we had a guy on tour with us for a few months who logged a ton of film for the dvd. After it was all said and done, we got a trailer and nothing else. No one has heard from the guy. He's kind of a freak.
Right now, we have our friend Matt Mixon on the road with us. Matt is a super talented filmographer, and will be compiling a mini documentary that will be released in parts. He filmed the first video we put out a while back about the new record. Keep an eye out for new releases. Sorry for the major cock-tease that was the original dvd
The first priority is definitely getting this record done so we have new songs to play for you guys. Our goal is to have the record done by the end of summer. The UK is definitely at the top of our list for places to get to. Two of us are married, and Ryan has a kid, so our availability for extensive touring is pretty limited, but I'd imagine we'd be getting there real soon. Thanks for being patient.
as far as developing the setlist, with Greg and I being fairly new, the amount of songs we really know is pretty limited. When we initially chose the setlist for the crush em all tour, we chose songs that highlighted the best of the back catalog. We have just kind have stuck with the original setlist, and made limited changes ie adding weight of the world for this tour. We all definitely have songs we'd love to learn and play, but that will come in time. And we are all definitely pumped to start playing new jams.
Branden just finished drums today at Trax East. after this mini tour is over, we will edit the drums, and then ryan, greg, and myself will head to boise to track guitars and bass. the album is slated for a late summer release if all goes according to plan. We will have mini-doc videos posted as we complete the various steps of the recording process. So keep and eye out for those!
You guys are kick ass, Controller is one of my top 3 favorite albums of all time.
Are you guys planning on releasing any songs before the album drops? and any chance of coming down to Atlanta?
We have every intention of posting a song before the full album comes out. Not exactly sure when, but if our enthusiasm for the new record is any indication, it will be sooner than later. Keep a lookout. The album is slated for a late summer release. So probably some time before that.
Also, any chance you can tell us a little bit to what expect from you in 2014? I heard rumors about doing a 10 years Of Malice anniversary.
Once we get through 2013 we'll have a better idea! right now we are just focused on putting out the best recording possible. Hopefully in 2014 we'll be opening for Coldplay and playing half time at the superbowl doing backup dancing for Beyonce
Will you be touring the UK in support of the new album? would love to see you guys live!
I can speak for the group in saying we are absolutely dying to come back to the UK. Obviously, finishing the album is the first priority. We know people have been patiently waiting for new songs, and we really want to deliver. So hopefully, amidst our crazy personal schedules, we can come to the UK/Europe in support of the new record.
What other styles of music do you guys listen to? What artists?
Yet another great question!
our taste in music is pretty eclectic. As far as styles, we have guys into, jazz, thrash, punk, metal, instrumental, so on and so forth. If it's good, we'll listen to it. We are all pretty open-minded musically.
As far as bands, we can all get down on Metallica, Propagandhi, Deftones, and Pantera. Our ipod collection is pretty ridiculous
Seen you guys 3 times at soma down in SD. Two quick ones:
1. I've never seen you play The Year Summer Ended In June live...is that song too personal to play live?
2. You guys gonna make it up to Seattle anytime soon?
Keep doing what you do, your music has influenced my guitar playing more than any other band in the past seven or so years.
EDIT: OK so you guys are playing it on this tour...but was there a reason you never did before?
We've played Summer on the last two tours we've done. There was a good chunk of time that we didn't play that song, but it means a lot to certain members, so we thought it would be good to bring it back.
Hopefully we'll be able to do some touring in support of the new record next fall. Seattle is great. I used to live on Capital Hill. Such a great city.
