Karl/Ryan, hope the new record is turning out great, hopefully it's not too much longer before we get to hear it. Also pleased with how the Solace record turned out - I still think it was funny you got Shane to say "fuck" on the record, haha. Come back to Portland soon, we'll have to hit that Chinese restaurant up again down the street from the Hawthorne.
did shane's take end up on the final recording? I feel like i didnt seem him mentioned in the linear notes though I could have missed that.

Also, wicked pumped for new tunes...dudes....

How has the new line up changed the writing process? Does the distance between all of the members play a big role in time between albums and tours?

Completely stoked to hear new music from you guys. Please come to Baltimore soon!

Karl, are you having another dig at cleans this record?
There are definitely a lot of moments on the album that have the opportunity to use clean vocals to our advantage. BUT, in saying that, we're not about to change up our format. The clean vocals on our previous records have been used sparingly. I don't see us straying too far from that.

Also, Set In Motion is a masterpiece. It sets a fantastically gloomy mood. Give me more.

Is the show still happening in NYC Saturday? There's a huge storm coming and I saw you changed tomorrow's show.
The only show that is cancelled due to weather is Eat Your Heart out fest in Poughkeepsie. OUr show that was originally tomorrow in CT has been postponed til sunday. Same venue (el n gee in new london)

Which will rule, because we combined with some other bands and With Honor, Make do and Mend, Life in your Way, Hostage Calm, and My Heart To Joy are all playing with us. Sick show.

Karl/Ryan,

I'm a long-time fan, ever since 7A7P's stuff. I've always felt that Misery Signals was representative of my generation. The melodic tensions (droning, percussive rhythms complimented by delicate, consistent melodies) and lyrics represented more than teenage Angst or political awareness, but they somehow conveyed a feeling of turbulence. Of course, most albums also contain a realist's dash of hope. I love your music for it; it rewards as many listens as you give it. So I guess I'm saying thank you for all the music, and I appreciate the effort you put into the record.

The question, I guess, is: Is any of this intentional? Do you focus on any struggle or theme when writing music? Or do you just let whatever is weighing on you at the time shape the record (and let the long chemistry of the musicians just work out the melodies)?

Thanking you for everything,
MisterT

so karl and ryan, You guys put up a trailer for the dvd that was planned on being released and its been at least a year or two since ive heard anything about it and the trailer is nowhere to be found on youtube so i was just wondering on the status of it and if you plan on still releasing it.
This is probably the most frequently asked question that we have received over the last year. Basically, we had a guy on tour with us for a few months who logged a ton of film for the dvd. After it was all said and done, we got a trailer and nothing else. No one has heard from the guy. He's kind of a freak.

Right now, we have our friend Matt Mixon on the road with us. Matt is a super talented filmographer, and will be compiling a mini documentary that will be released in parts. He filmed the first video we put out a while back about the new record. Keep an eye out for new releases. Sorry for the major cock-tease that was the original dvd

Excited to see you guys here in Michigan, How do you guys go about developing your setlist?
We take a lot of time fine-tuning our set list. Starting with a list of songs everyone collectively wants to play is the easy part. Then comes the painstaking procedure of placing the songs in an order that has the best flow. We play through each order combination until we find one that just feels right.
