Too bad there isn't more discussion of This Is England here. I love that whole series.

Should the UK have a list? I guess it's a borderline case, because there are shows that are pretty popular here already (Doctor Who has one of the bigger tv threads, for instance, others like Sherlock and Misfits aren't too far behind) and there are others that deserve more exposure, like TIE.

Couldn't stand This is England 86. Took everything that was good about the film and turned it into Coronation Street with swearing. The UK list is potentially huge, so I won't mention anything from there.

Has anyone seen Næturvaktin (The Night Shift)? It's an Icelandic sit-com set in a petrol station and it's absolutely hilarious. They did three seasons, Dagvaktin, set in a hotel and Fangavaktin, set in a prison.

They also did a film, Bjarnfreðarson.

It's really, really funny, but there's a lot of heart and poignant moments as well.

The film is absolutely stunning, a brilliant depiction of racism and the working class in 80s Northern England. And the characterisation was superb. Hope you enjoy it when it turns up!

The TV series wasn't anywhere near as interesting for me. Much tamer.

The first season of Blackadder kind of sucks, at least by comparison to the rest. Past that it's one of the greats.
