you're deff not the only one. i remember my friends watching a Madea play of his on VHS and wondering what's so funny about it. It's hard to take him seriously when he got his start by playing dress up. Yes we can relate to it cause most of us in the black community have a "Madea" like family member but it's still ridiculous.
