Can you put that into context? How many teams in the league, how many keepers, how long can you keep, etc?

10 team league, standard 5x5 scoring, $260 budget. We start all 8 field positions, plus an IF slot, a 4th OF slot, and a UTIL.

We can keep up to 12 guys, and a guy can be kept a total of 3 times in a row, regardless of if he was traded to you or if he was dropped mid year and you picked him up. Drafting a guy in the first season counted as a "keep", and I drafted Cano, so this will be the last year he can be kept. They see a 10% premium increase per year, and we round up any decimals. So for example Matt Moore will cost $7 to keep this year, and $8 to keep next year.

Both Matt Moore and Goldschmidt have only been kept once so far, so I'll be able to keep both of them for this season and next season.

As of right now, my most expensive possible keepers are Hamels and Kershaw, at $31 and $24 respectively. I may also try to trade Hamels, get another young cheap good bat back, and then keep Darvish at $24.

I'd do that deal then I think. 2 years of two young and improving players at good salaries. Cano is obviously elite, but you can only keep him for 1 more year and he will cost a ton. Use that extra $28 to get another elite player in the draft.

Definitely my thinking, it's just gonna be a change for me trying to fill the 2B slot after not having to do so. And the pickins be slim. Maybe I can draft like an Utley/Gyorko combo and hope for the best

Completed the trade. my keepers for the upcoming season, assuming I keep Hamels, look like this...

Salvador Perez ($6)
Paul Goldschmidt ($7)
Mike Moustakas ($8)
Allen Craig ($6)
Desmond Jennings ($7)
Starling Marte ($6)
Cole Hamels ($31)
Clayton Kershaw ($24)
Johnny Cueto ($6)
Brett Anderson ($6)
Jarrod Parker ($6)
Matt Moore ($7)

$120 total, leaving me $140 to draft with.

And the other guys I'm considering...right now the odd man out would be Marte if I decided to go with one of these other guys.
Carlos Beltran ($8)
Alcides Escobar ($6)
Anibal Sanchez ($5)
Nick Swisher ($2)
Yu Darvish ($24)
Greg Holland ($6)
Brandon Beachy ($7)
Eric Hosmer ($20)

Dom Brown's looked good in the ST games so far but I refuse to let the homer in me add him to the consideration list haha. Any thoughts?

Freeman in the 6th maybe? he's got the potential to be really really good, but 1B is deep.

I've never done a snake draft for baseball so I'm probably not the best to comment on that haha

I'm being offered Jay Bruce ($22) for Hamels ($31) straight up. Can't keep Bruce past this season, same with Hamels.

Edit-Did the trade. Probably done making moves before our keeper deadline, so roster goes into the draft looking like this...

Pretty happy with that

I've been big on pitching since I started playing a few years ago, but I definitely agree that it'll be easier to find pitching on the FA market. EVery year you'll get a few guys that come out of no where, and a few prospects that come from the minors and put up solid numbers.

Hanley's injury is going to be interesting. I was prepared to spend $35 or so to grab him in my keeper league, and me and the only other guy who didn't keep a SS both have a solid chunk of money to spend. Now I've gotta decide how much I'm willing to spend for 4-4.5 months of Hanley.

Just going to requote this to get more opinions. Some people say it's good balance, others tell me I absolutely did a great job, and others say I am going to be last in the league in every hitting category... so I don't know where I stand, haha.

I think it's pretty damn good...you've got a couple risks at C and 2B, but if they perform like they can, you should be in good shape, IMO

Alright, here's my results...keepers in bold...

C-Salvador Perez ($6)
1B-Paul Goldschmidt (7)
2B-Dustin Pedroia ($29)
3B-Mike Moustakas ($8)
SS-Erick Aybar ($2)
IF-Allen Craig ($6)
OF-Jay Bruce ($22)
OF-Desmond Jennings ($7)
OF-Shane Victorino ($7)
OF-Brett Gardner ($5)
UTIL-Eric Hosmer ($12)

P-Clayton Kershaw ($24)
P-Yu Darvish ($24)
P-Johnny Cueto ($6)
P-Matt Moore ($7)
P-Jarrod Parker ($6)
P-Brett Anderson($6)
P-Alex Cobb ($8)
P-Anibal Sanchez ($11)
P-Greg Holland ($10)

Bench-Domonic Brown ($8)
Bench-Rickie Weeks ($3)
Bench-Alcides Escobar ($1)
Bench-Neil Walker ($1)

$34 left over! Ugh. I ran out of spots, really. I nominated both Escobar and Walker thinking someone else would bid on them (it was still early in the draft and people had bench spots to fill), and no one did. I'm so pissed off at myself for leaving so much money on the table.

My initial impression of my team is I should have pretty damn good pitching, and I should win steals every week. I'm lacking power something awful though.

Also, Tim Hudson, somehow everyone forgot about him and he didn't get drafted. Should I pick him up?

I'm also going to pick up Jedd Gyorko....

If I'm picking up those two, which two guys should I drop? It's gotta be between Aybar, Weeks, Escobar, and Walker...

Harvey actually went for like $25 in my auction league. I was specifically targeting him but people kept bidding. I don't know how he didn't get kept in the first place, really.

Of course, I ended with $34 extra dollars, so fuck me for not bidding $26
