Yeah, this is becoming more and more common. The big reason is sound quality. It's like mp3s: the more space a song is allowed to take up, the better the quality is. So since the world of vinyl is being taken up more and more by audiophiles, we're seeing records move in that direction. I remember a few years ago Bob Dylan put out a 10 song album on two records.

It'll get less annoying as you get used to it. I used to hate to have to get up 3 times just to listen to one album. Now I don't mind it at all. But I definitely see how you could dislike it.

i mean Jesus, the word is 'record' we don't call toaster ovens 'metal' or 'metals' that's the material it's made of.
If we're really going to have this conversation:

"Record" is like "album" in that it can be used to broadly describe a set of songs that are sequenced together. "Vinyl" can be and is used to distinguish a record from CDs, cassettes, and other formats.

It really isn't that big of a deal. People are mocked for saying "vinyls" because it's grammatically incorrect. If we're going to start ostracizing people for saying "vinyl" just because it's something that a bunch of people decide isn't cool, then I don't even know. I've been collecting vinyl since I was 13, and I've never had a problem with saying it.

If you went into a hundred record stores and said "hey, I'm looking for a copy of the new Brand New record" I promise you at least 70% of the clerks would come back with a copy of the CD.

lol nah dude, you're (and apparently these shitty store clerks too) confusing 'record' with 'album'. Albums are released on record, CD, cassette, etc. The term 'record sales' comes from when records were the only format, they're technically album sales though.
No I know where the term comes from. I'm just pointing out that over time, "record" has come to mean the same thing as "album" in every day speech.

yeah, and people still type 'it's there hat' and 'Steve is over their' but that doesn't make it any less incorrect.
