The icon concept is to repackage and strip down greatest hits albums to the bare minimum "need to know" songs. It serves as a primer for those who aren't well familiar with the artist, or an alternative to buying a full greatest hits album, as most of those even have at least a few throwaway tracks, for the "extremely casual listener." They usually carry 11 tracks and retail for$7-$8. Its really more selling the price than the product to people who may want the stuff but don't want to go all in on an artist. I run an f.y.e and they sell very well, as the price is basically the same as 5-6 tracks on itunes. |
Interesting. I always wondered of they sold well or not. I'm still shocked when NOW tops the charts - so what do I know. Hah.
