There’s a lot of stuff we’ve done this year and we’ve gotten really good at just shutting off. There’s some things that are too big to even think about, and you get to the point in your head where all you can think about while you’re up there is when you used to do really small shows. Now it’s the Grammys, but it’s still the same thing. The environment is the same. It’s the same emotions. I play guitar the same way, Nate sings the same way, so it’s really important in those moments to treat it no different than like playing a club show.
So first off, thanks for reaching out to us. That means a lot.
You know what? Going through the Grammy stuff, we’ve been getting calls from everyone. We don’t want to talk to any press, so I just told my manager, “Can we just talk to AP?” You’re the people that’s always been covering us.
Nice! Well is there anything particular on your mind?
Just with all the Grammy stuff, I’d rather talk to you guys about it than anyone else.
Glad to see them excited to do an interview with AP. Give these guys credit for trying not to let success go to their head. I like the fact they are willing to switch up their successful sound for a new album. All four full lengths from Nate between The Format and Fun. have their own sound. I'd put Interventions on top, then Some Nights second. I'm not looking to rank his albums, but I do think it's interesting that the time and different group members of his albums hasn't been the biggest difference, more his choice of musical direction for what he's writing...I think.
love the interview, love how the band is not letting the success get to their heads. Do feel bad that they seem worn out from the non-stop touring though. The whole success story has been an enjoyable ride to accompaign.
