Thing is, compared to signing Wallace and another FA WR, using that first is a smart play. New contracts are much smaller on rookies, so skill players come cheap for 4-5 years. Compared to paying Hartline 3yrs/$20ish mil, the value is there to get a guy with a much higher ceiling. But you're right, you're probably getting someone on the line.
Btw, I was looking at your 2009 draft...he did really well. Had he not wasted the 2nd from Washington on Pat White, and gotten someone like Unger or Byrd instead, you'd have gotten 5-6 starters out of that draft. Vontae Davis, Sean Smith, Hartline (4th), Clemons, etc |
yea as I said, I am not his biggest fan but I think he does get ripped on too much. he also found Reshad Jones in the 5th round in 2010.
I was against the Pouncey pick in '11 but he is a Pro Bowl level player already. I was not on board with the Tannehill pick in '12 and he looks like he could be good.
my ideal offseason would be to sign one of Wallace/Jennings, re-sign Hartline, and take a pass rusher or CB at 12. get another WR in the 2nd or 3rd to add to the other 2 guys (and Bess).
