The Battle Against Piracy Continues

Posted by - 01:35 PM on 02/25/13
According to this article, the "six-strikes" anti-piracy rules begin today.
TorrentFreak learned from a source close to CCI that the system is currently scheduled to launch early next week, and we’re not the only ones. Another sign of the start of the program is that a few days ago the CCI launched their new website. This is where recipients of the copyright alerts will be directed to.

Prosecute musicians for their art, and music will die. Problem solved.

All this money wasted because the music industry has deep pockets and is pissed off about carrying around change.

This crap ain't even gonna be legal. If they actually do it than they are just setting themselves up for lawsuits when people using torrents for legitimate use (especially companies) get screwed over using shared internet.

I don't use anything and haven't gotten a single letter; I'd rather buy merch and see band live before I buy a CD

I've gotten notices in the past, but I haven't gotten anything since I started using PeerBlock over a year ago.

I've been using BT Guard and didn't get a notice yet. Unless they're tracking everything I download and then whacking me with one large bill at the end.

People say this all the time and I'll never understand it. Why not support a band you love 100%? And not 66%?

If the implication is that you just take music, a lot of bands don't differentiate. Everyone will say something different, but for smaller independent bands that fund everything out of pocket, (like the thousands of dollars in recording expenses), taking a record, physical or digital, is no different than stealing a t shirt off their merch table.

This approach towards curbing piracy makes me incredibly uncomfortable.

The RIAA, punishing you for the music industry's failure to adapt since 1999.

I actually don't have too much of a problem with this, from what I understand of it (which admittedly is not everything).

Here's an idea: people should just purchase music, not steal it! Musicians need to make a living too! If you go to a record store and take a cd without paying for it, it's called stealing and you'll be arrested. Same should happen when you illegally download music, movies, etc!
