Third Eye Blind sparked a near-riot at SXSW by turning their showcase into an arena rock show. Cops shut down the band 35 minutes into their set on Friday night at Pandora Porch. The venue was not yet full when security stopped letting people in.

The size of the crowd then completely shut down 5th Street and used the parking structure for an arena view, turning what was intended to be a showcase for about a thousand people into one of SXSW's largest gatherings.

"Sorry Austin police," says the band, via Twitter.

This surprises me. I know 3EB can pull in a crowd once in awhile, but I didn't expect something like this.

Good for them, maybe the ego stroke will help them get back in the studio, finish the new album and then go on a proper US tour.

That is truly awesome to see. Glad these guys still have such a big fan base even though they've past their biggest time to shine.
