Saosin - Come Close
Record Label: Capitol Records
Release Date: March 11, 2008
A live album can go one of two ways. It can be great - produced well, mixed well, just like what makes a good record. It can also go the opposite way. A band can fail to utilize the sound system, and it just sort of sounds like a bad concert. Fortunately, Saosin's Come Close was able to go the better way. The energy coming out of this album tops the feeling that I had listening to their self-titled debut Saosin.
The first track "It's Far Better to Learn" starts out with some fans cheering before the roaring guitar riff kicks off. Cove Reber's vocals come roaring through holding up through the song and the rest of the album as well. "Voices," the first single off of their full length, has an added guitar progression and vocal segment right at the beginning that shows the band doesn't just play through their album with no energy; Saosin actually add new aspects to some great songs. Their second single and most popular song, "You're Not Alone," is beautifully performed and sung to a level higher than on the recorded version.
Saosin have proved themselves in this world. A great full length followed by an impressive live album puts them on the track to even a higher level of success than they have already achieved. Saosin will be around for a long time, so get used to it.
