Racing Kites - Sampler EP
Record Label: None
Release Date: May 27, 2008
Though having already released an exceptionally good first EP, We Hold It All Together, in late 2006, this band is still unknown to most people outside of their local scene in New Jersey. After listening to the three-song sampler they plan to put out May 27, I can say the popularity of this band is soon to spark. The EP starts off with an infectious summer song, "All Night is Alright." The track doesn't sound much like anything off of We Hold It All Together as it seems that Racing Kites have attained more of a pop influence into their pop rock sound. "Better Without It," which does a great job at following "All Night is Alright," sounds like it could be a b-side from Cartel's Chroma, so much that it even sounds like Will Pugh shares vocals with Alex at the 2:23 mark, although it isn't noted in the recording notes. "Oceans" finishes up the short EP nicely. Overall, this EP won't blow you away lyrically, but it is definitely something that you'll keep listening to for the summer days. It also shows that Racing Kites have a very promising future.
