One of my all time favorite things about a Jimmy Eat World record is the vocals reaching a climatic point and just crashing with the instrumentation. Sounds like I'm only gonna be getting half of that this time around. It feels like the songwriting and the music itself are all intact, but I'm pretty pissed they chose to lower the vocals and keep them as you said, "muddy". I could care a less if it's a "raw" sound or not, I just want that epic feeling I get with a JEW record.
