|The following is a mini interview of generic questions that we posed to all bands that wanted to answer:|
1. How did you get your band name?
Well a Petroglyph is a type of rock carving but I didnít think this was quite pretentious or cool enough so I switched the letters around a bit and came up with PTEROGLYPH which sounds classier!
2. How did this band get started?
This all started when I decided to leave my previous band Mishkin to fly solo! Nothing wrong with those guys, they just never did what they were told!! Thatís a joke, Iím just a massive egomaniac.
3. What bands are you influenced by?
Mainly various types of forward thinking progressive metal these days such as Devin Townsend, Gojira, Sylosis and Meshuggah.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Either Devin Townsend or Meshuggah as their level of professionalism and musicianship is just beyond anything that anyone is doing at the moment and I would be in awe every night! Also because they all come across as really nice guys!
5. Best food to eat on tour?
When visiting the motherland, itís got to be Deep Fried Haggis and a can of Irn Bru! If youíre having trouble breathing, youíre doing it right.
6. Why should people listen to your band?
If youíve ever wondered what a 6í2 egocentric ginger vikings schizophrenic mind sounds like you should definitely listen us. Also head banging, if you like to bang your head, that too!
7. If you could be any athlete, which athlete would you switch places with?
Sports are quite an alien concept to me so it would have to be something quite laid backÖlike darts! So Andy Fordham! But when he was more corpulent, these days he looks like something from Men In Black, sorry Andy!
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
No one! Because itís not about them, itís about me and how great I am! Ha! Seriously thoughÖ Probably just my family, the universe, the Holy Ghost and Jack Black.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
The music industry is constantly changing at the moment, bands are working harder, the press and promoters are giving the little guys more and more exposure which is awesome. The only thing Iíd change if I could would be the fans point of view as itís become so easy these days to just access everything at a click of a button people forget and take for granted how much time and effort musicians are putting into creating the music they love! The majority of bands these days arenít in it for making money but do it because they love it so if you like the band, send a little cash their way, buy a download or a Tshirt, go to a gig and help them keep going and creating music so you can continue to enjoy it!
10. Memorable tour experience?
Probably the first gig we ever played together as a live band! Full room and I was absolutely bricking it! We playedÖ.OK but I was really proud of everything that I/we had accomplished to get to that point and itís sort of a milestone!
11. What does AP.net mean to you?
Absolute Punk is keeping the scene aliiive! Connecting people through their one love of music and kicking ass!
12. What is your favorite song to play?
Probably ďEmpathyĒ as it has a big elaborate ending/outro section that makes me lose my shit on stage regularly!
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
Got to be Thailand, never thought Iíd ever experience paradise, but itís out there and itís real!!
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
Iron maiden Ė Number of the Beast or Guns N Roses Ė Appetite for destruction.
I bought Appetite for Destruction on cassette from my local music store when I was about 10?? No idea. That and ďThe best reggae album in the world..EVER!Ē
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
Invisibility, so then I could FINALLY be naked in public at all times and nobody would even know!
16. Any pre-show superstitions or rituals?
I donít drink anymore before we play which is kind of lame but good for my voice then afterwards it means I go all out and can party hard full of adrenaline! Also make sure you have everything you need for the gig the night before and try to tie your cables up!
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
I also design any artwork related to Pteroglyph, also I record and produce everything I do!
18. What is your assessment of the current state of radio? Do you think it's a place where your band could flourish?
Itís a place where any band can flourish, people forget about how much of a brilliant tool radio can be for promotion, everyone tunes into the radio in some form so if you can get your music on there youíre instantly increasing the amount of people listening to it, again radio stations are taking more chances on smaller bands because thatís what people want to hear! We could definitely flourish on most rock shows, probably not the radio 1 breakfast show as they just play shite on repeat.
19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Iíve been doing yoga for the past couple of months to stay super limber! Makes me feel awesome and flexible! Other than that, itís music, playing music, writing music, designing music, listening to music, talking about music and looking at pictures of cats on the internet.
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
I have the incredible ability to talk amazing nonsense in interviews! Not so hidden now!
