A new report by Norwegian researchers at Ipsos claims that piracy has fallen in that country thanks to "viable alternative sources."
For example, music piracy has fallen from 1.2 billion songs in 2008 to 210 million last year. About 60 million movies and TV shows were pirated last year, compared to 125 million and 135 million five years ago. In short, access to paid content, whether via streaming or a la carte services, is slowly whittling away the impetus to pirate.

no surprise to me. I've always believed that if you make your art easily available at a fair price, it will sell.
EDIT:or you know, be streamed or purchased legally. depending on the context.

The Protagonist of Loneliness
Streaming and downloading to mobile devices, I feel, would be a huge part of that.
No need to pirate when it's so easily accessible from our pockets.. Idk. Maybe not.

doesn't really surprise me either like most. Piracy's draw is that it is easily and quickly available when ever you want it. No geographical restrictions or any of that BS

Now I just stream every album before I illegally download them.

Eight miles high and falling fast
Thanks for the article... :)
What bothers me most, is that we still have country restrictions on digital download from Amazon, and don't have Spotify, Netflix, or any other similar service... There's a long way to go yet.

Don't wake me, I plan on sleeping
When I hear about a big upcoming album available to stream, I think to myself, "Well, this album got leaked recently.."

This is very encouraging news. I've probably spent close to $10,000 in my life on music, movies, and video games and proud of the fact that I don't pirate any of it.

HBO shows are some of the most pirated videos. Guarantee the availability of HBO Nordic played a huge factor here. Once HBO GO is available without a cable subscription for North America, the same thing will happen here.
