I went to the used media store across from my apartment tonight looking for FOB's - "folie a deux" , and came back empty handed in that regard. I randomly picked up Lucky Boy's Confusion - "Throwin the Game" (promotional copy), the Movielife's -"has a gambling problem..." and Dave Melillo "talk is cheap" all for about four bucks and some change...

Made me think... what are some gems that people have came home with unexpectedly?

Be it a super rarity, an album that you simply never got a hold of back when album was still actually in stores vs mp3 (a la Amazon/iTunes ) , or an album with major sentimental value that you lost.

I know CDs aren't as hip as Vinyl Records at this point, but as they end up in trashbins world-wide albums with limited prints may get a bit more exciting down the road.

So... what are your gems.. and go!

I once lost my copy of Morning View by Incubus when I was in 4th grade. I found it again during my junior year of high school.

I can't think of specific examples, but I generally have good luck with buying albums and liking them without listening to it first.

In 6th grade I bought Americana by the Offspring and 311's s/t album. They both got stolen at some basketball tourney. I've yet to regret that misfortune.

I'd like to think if I rolled up onto a copy of Fungus Amungus at a used media store I'd be psyched and have to purchase it out of excitement.

I randomly picked up a Dirty Pretty Things album and No Cities Left by the Dears at a record store years ago.

I don't think I got through all of the first one, and the second became one of my all-time favorite albums.

So the Dears one I fuckin love that record.

I picked up Cursive's The Ugly Organ because my brother liked it. It's probably my favorite album.

Found a copy of Oh, Sleeper's Armored March EP a couple of months back in a local shop. One of the best things I've found. :)

I found copies of Astral Days, In Defense of The Genre and Infinity on High in a used CD store. I was pretty happy.

Found a copy of A.A. Bondy's "When The Devil's Loose" hiding in the wrong section at Vinyl Renaissance last year. Couldn't believe that someone would sell it haha.

I got dredg's El Cielo about a year after its release for 1$ in a bargain bin. I had literally NO idea who they were but back in the day I would listen to any CD that had an intriguing cover art at the store. The storeworkers were like "Hey, someone knows what this is!!" (I guess they didn't know who it was either and marked it down low). Needless to say, the album was phenomenal and was a huge musical taste changer for me.

Deltron 3030, the only hip hop LP in the store (the place usually specialises in 70s-90s rock and alternative, but has a small table with used hip hop and EDM/House singles) hiding in a table of 12" singles collecting dust near the back of the store. That was really cool.
