Tyler Oleson, drummer for Modern Life Is War, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly leading Marshalltown, IA, police on a short chase which caused a collision with a squad car. Oleson was initially charged with alluding criminal mischief in the second degree for intentionally slamming on his brakes; aggravated assault for trying to run an officer off the road; and OWI first offense. The investigation is ongoing. The band will not be cancelling or postponing any of its upcoming shows.
The incident began Saturday night when Oleson, who was driving alongside a marked patrol car on Center Street, “basically flipped off the officer,” said Marshalltown police Sgt. Melinda Ruopp. The officer ignored the gesture, but Oleson stayed next to the patrol car and tried to run it off the road, Ruopp said. “It was like he wanted our attention,” Ruopp said, “so he got it.” When the officer got behind Oleson to stop him, Oleson slammed on the brakes in front of the officer, who avoided a collision. Oleson then took off, starting the short car chase around 9:20 p.m.
