Fantastic review, Craig. Such a wonderful record.

Seen a lot about the lyrics being "cringeworthy" and I wouldn't say that's fair. Maybe in the sense that they're just that uncomfortable but the negative connotation attached doesn't really fit.
Definitely agree. I think cringeworthy is absolutely the wrong word, and I've been surprised to see that adjective thrown around to describe this record. They can be jarring every once in awhile, but I think the uncomfortable lines add to the honesty and realness of the record. They're part of the reason this really struck a chord with me right away.

Yep, exactly.

I think this is the first time we have ever agreed, haha.

Haha, well maybe not the first time EVER, but one of them.

Great review. This album is a LOT to take in. It's crazy how much is contained in each song. I get sort of a Bazan vibe from a lot of the songs; more just in the way he writes than the actual music I suppose. Both have an uncanny way of mixing poetic musings with plain bluntness that really catches you off guard. The storytelling here is fantastic as well, I find that I can't really use this record as background music because of the engaging stories and the descriptive way he portrays them. It's almost like an audiobook at times. Anyway, I really enjoyed this review Craig.

Definitely. I've tried listening to this album when working, and it doesn't really work. I get distracted by the lyrics because there is just so much to take in.

this is the first album of his i've loved back-to-back. i love the way Koz is basically going for broke in a certain respect, it's really helped to flip any meme that might have been made out of him onto its head. it helps that i'm from Ohio and have seen most of the little towns he's referencing haha

the only thing i'd like to add to your review is that "Ben's My Friend" is the perfect, most hilarious way to end a really dark album.

Haha, yeah, "Ben's My Friend" is entirely out of left field. I almost feel like it's a bonus chapter or something. I kind of wish "I watched the Film" was the closer, but I don't mind the sequencing as is.

really great review craig, loved reading that. this album is just stunning, the stories are so raw and personal that it's hard not to be taken by the whole thing.
Thanks man, I appreciate it. You got a favorite song on here yet? Mine keeps changing.

either "Carissa" or "Ben's My Friend" at this point but there's so much on here to love

Truck Driver, Carissa, Jim Wise, Ben's My Friend. Hell, I can't really pick between them.

I'm partial to "Carissa," "I Can't Live Without My Mother's Love," and "I Watched the Film…"
