5 Seconds of Summer to Play Arena Show; Largest Pre-Order in UMG...

Posted by - 11:08 AM on 07/22/14
5 Seconds of Summer will be playing an arena show at the Forum in Los Angeles on Saturday, November 15th. According to the press release I just got, the band's new album "has already peaked at No. 1 globally on iTunes in 71 countries, and has secured more preorders than any other artist in the history of Universal Music Group." Oh, and Universal Music most certainly classifies them as "pop-punk" (actually, to be fair, it's "pop-punk sensations"). This sort of reminds me of when Simple Plan kind of came out of nowhere (from the ashes of Reset) and everyone did a collective, "Huh? These guys aren't pop-punk!", and now they're effectively written into the pop-punk lexicon. It seems like there's no stopping it now: 5 Seconds of Summer, The Wonder Years, and All Time Low -- biggest pop-punk bands in existence right now?

They're a boy-band who happens to play their own instruments.

These guys aren't even bad. I listened to some of their stuff and they just sound like a slightlier more poppy All Time Low.

The music seems harmless.

Caught a rerun of The OC a few nights ago and it was there! Plus, trucker hats and leather bands and puka shells -- 00's pop-punk is a fashion hilarity.

I remember Reset actually being very good. I think I got a few of their songs off of Napster back in the day.

The first Simple Plan album was super fun when it came out, but totally pop.

My Chemical Romance is another example of a band I remember being really uncool until like ten years later
