Please state your name and what you do in Before their Eyes. I’m Nick and I sing.
Can you give a quick history about the band for the people that aren’t familiar with you guys? We were all in different local bands together so we decided to start BTE as a side project for fun in Nov ’06. We recorded a few demos with Joey Sturgis and it just kind of went from there.
How did you and Rise Records get together? We played our first show in Dec ’06 with the devil wears prada in Toledo, oh and their drummer hooked us up with rise.
Tell us a little bit about your new album, “The Dawn of my Death.” Romans 6: 6-7 "For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin – because anyone who has died has been freed from sin."
Although the title sounds dark and depressing it is actually very positive and exciting. Its all about the start of a new life free from sin and all the other things life throws our way. We know that through Jesus Christ all will be OK and he will take care of us.
Is there a present theme throughout the record? There isn’t a theme to whole cd – but a lot of it is about starting a new walk in life.
How was writing and recording this album compared to your first one? We had a lot more time on this album. We were only a band for 2 months when we recorded the first album and we did it in 13 days. So I think time was the main thing that was different for us.
Who produced the CD and what was it like working with him? Joey Sturgis produced it, he’s the only producer we’ve ever worked with (even recording the demos). We work perfectly with him. It was also co-produced by Steve Soboslai & Tyler from Let’s get it. Working with Steve was awesome – he’s one of my musical idols so it was an honor.
What will the single off the album going to be? The first song we released was called “Life Was All A Dream” but the single will be “So In Love”
Are you going to shoot a video for it? When? We are actually shooting a video for both. We’ve already shot one of them. We are releasing the first video in November and the “so in love” video in early ’09.
How has your religion influenced your music? Our beliefs are everything to us. We know that we aren’t going to “save” kids every night at our shows but we could possibly change a few kids’ lives – even if its 1, it’s totally worth it to us. We just want to love everyone regardless of their beliefs as JC would & hopefully people will pick up on that.
What do you when you have downtime between show? We normally watch movies & play video games. We’re pretty wild guys.
What has been the best show you guys have played so far and why? I love every show. If I had to choose probably chain reaction on the artery tour. I had a good time there.
What has been the coolest accomplishment so far and why? I think being able to release 2 albums is pretty awesome accomplishment for us. We were only expecting to record demos at the start of this.
What is the writing process like for you guys? We write all the music, then the lyrics, and then we fit the vocals in with that. Our last album we wrote most of it in the studio. That’s the best way for us to work.
What are some bands you are listening to right now? Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Punchline, and Forever The Sickest Kids
