|First off, introduce yourself and tell us what you do in the band.|
Alright....Hey there. My name is Vincent and I am the singer in Roses Are
How did RAR go about becoming a band?
Roses Are Red formed a couple years ago. We were all friends for a while
because our bands at the time used to play together a lot. Eventually
bands dissolved. We decided to come together to write passionate,
powerful, and melodic music and really work hard to reach our goals. We
all share the same work ethic and love of music. It works really well.
You guys just recently released _Conversations_ on Trustkill. How was it
recording the album?
The _Conversations_ sessions were a really good time. We recorded at
Portrait Studios in NJ with Chris Badami. It was a really relaxed and fun
environment to record in. Chris worked with us, kind of as a sixth member
of the band to really dig deep into the heart of the music and just come
out with the best songs possible. We tried a lot of things. Some ideas we
kept, some we scrapped. All in all, we_re very very proud of the record.
What is the meaning behind the title _Conversations?_ Does it have
anything to do with the album cover?
_Conversations_ is a reference to the lyrical point of view on the record.
Each song is sort of a one-sided conversation that the listener finds
himself sort of eavesdropping in on. For the artwork, we really wanted to
go with something really simple that won_t look dated in a few years. We
also chose that particular girl for our cover because she is undoubtedly
beautiful, but not in a super model way. She represents the more
attainable girl everyone can fall in love with.
How did you guys get signed to Trustkill?
We started talking to a bunch of labels in the summer of 2003. We were
introduced to Josh at Trustkill through a mutual friend. He came out to
see a show in NJ, we went out to eat and really just felt a good
connection. Of all labels we talked with, Trustkill was the most genuine
and most passionate about our band. We couldn_t be happier where we are.
You have played lots of shows with a lot of varieties of bands. Is there
any band or tour in particular that sticks out for you guys?
The most recent tour we did with Underoath, The Hurt Process, and
Silverstein throughout Europe was one of the best tours we_ve ever done.
The Boys Night Out, From First To Last, and Emery tour was also an amazing
time. We also did a tour before we were signed with Norma Jean and
Evergreen Terrace. That tour was also a great time. We_re really fortunate
to have had the opportunity to tour with so many great bands.
Have you guys started writing for the follow-up yet?
We have bits and pieces of possible parts for the next record, but nothing
written all the way through yet. We really want to focus on pushing
_Conversations_ by touring as much as possible. We really want the writing
for the next record to come very naturally.
I am sure you get asked this a lot, but what is it like being on a label
that is a majority of hardcore bands and then R A R who are a little more
Signing with Trustkill was definitely a strange move for a band like ours.
But we really liked the idea of being sort of a different direction for
the label. We felt like they would push and support us a lot right out of
the gate. Trustkill is like a big family. All the bands know each other
and really get along. It_s been a really awesome experience. They have
been nothing but amazing to us.
Is there any big plans or tours coming up for you guys in the new year?
We have some great tours coming up. Next month we head out for a full US
tour with The Plain White T_s and the Matches. After that, we head out to
the west coast to do some dates with Millencolin. We have
some other really exciting tours in the works, too. Those will be
announced as soon as they are confirmed.
What were some major influences of the band musically and non musically?
We take alot of musical influences from bands like Def Leppard and Bon
Jovi. Those bands wrote very honest, passionate, and powerful rock songs
about life, love, and regret. They also gave their fans a mindblowing
show. We try to be as straightforward as possible. Our music is
essentially each member of the band_s ideal band. We write music we_d want
to listen to.
Are there any bands that you feel readers should be listening to these
Hmm. Let me think here...
Everyone should check out a Detroit band called Alucard. They are unsigned
as of now, but they will blow your fucking mind. They will be huge. Also
our friends from Rochester called I, Dreamer have some really good stuff
happening. One of the new Trustkill bands, Bedlight For Blue Eyes is
fucking amazing. Their new record is gonna kill. We_ve all really been
into the newest Mew record, too. Another band that has just blown my mind
in the past year is He Is Legend. If you haven_t heard their new record
yet, you NEED to check it out. So good.
So there_s a few. =)
Is there any talk of another video?
We_re hoping to do another video before the year is out for the song
_Oceans._ You can hear the song now on the new Trustkill Sampler and on
our MySpace page (www.myspace.com/rosesarered). We have some really cool
ideas for the video. It will be a good one.
Are there any last words for all the readers out in AP land?
Thanks so much for doing the interview and thanks to everyone for reading.
If you haven_t heard our new record _Conversations_, please check it out
when you can. We think you_ll like it. Everyone take care. We will see you
on the road...
