theSHOWERSCENE - What Tangled Webs We Weave
Record Label: None
Release Date: April 8, 2008
Who?
An emotive rock outfit from Carbondale who have apparently deemed themselves worth of a Brand New-related name.
How is it?
Not worthy of a Brand New moniker. The EP isn't awful, but the pop-rock cliches abound as the band shed tear after lyrical tear over loves lost and situations botched. The effort as a whole is generic, each song a mid-tempo lamentation of sorts. That's not to say it doesn't have its appeal; the songs aren't wholly awful by any means, and the lyrics show some promise, as can be seen in the first track, "Assurance." Beyond that pleasant, comfortable aesthetic, however, the band is simply making all the right moves, something Jesse Lacey would surely not condone. The music doesn't deliver the danger, the emotion, or the powerful visceral experience that an association with Brand New would suggest. It's a comfortable, play-it-safe EP, and while it pleases the ears, it isn't up to the standard that would warrant a name like theSHOWERSCENE
