Called to Arms, a new addition to the metalcore genre from Raleigh, North Carolina.
How is it?
If you're a big fan of the metalcore genre, you're bound to love this EP. Although The Last Lament doesn't bring anything new to the table, it's still a good release. Called to Arms bring you everything you'd expect from a metalcore band. The "pig-squealing" vocals can be annoying, but the vocalist can also let out some nice growled vocals and is a very good mix with the impressive instrumentation of the band. The guitarists are outstanding on The Last Lament and have some nice solos and blood pumping leads. The drummer is also very good when you can hear him, because in most of this EP he seems like he's just in the background. Called to Arms also incorporate keyboard parts that serve as breathers (see "Sixth Hour" and "Revelation"). The Last Lament has no structure to it whatsoever, and that's a good thing. Most metalcore bands follow the sing, scream, breakdown, repeat formula, but not Called to Arms. The Last Lament does not change the genre, but you should watch out for them in 2009.
