Is Andrew W.K. the worst opener imaginable? No way! He's not even the worst opener Black Sabbath has ever had. (Let's not forget that Crazy Town shared the stage with with metal legends on Ozzfest 2001.) Although the DJ gig certainly wasn't the ideal display, and I'm sure he'd have preferred a regular performance as well, Andrew W.K. made the most of an awkward situation and, true to his form, partied hard.
Black Sabbath have personally invited Andrew W.K. to join them for their entire North American tour, asking him to kick-off every show as their exclusive opening act. Per their request, the King of Partying will perform a special DJ set every night before the definitive heavy metal band takes the stage. Andrew promises to spin a rabble-rousing selection of classic riffs, heavy jams, and crowd pleasing favorites spanning every era of hard rock and metal.
Update: The chat is now over, thanks a lot to Andrew for spending some time with us!

The festival takes place on May 18/19 and tickets are still available here.
I do hope—at this point, we’re looking at fall or winter—to have those open months. I need at least three months. The good thing is that I keep writing, whether it’s lyrics or melodies or rhythms or riffs. I do require some unbroken time to record the whole thing. That’s the thing about albums—you have to make them. I’ll release it after I finish making it, I think. I was going to try to put it out before it was recorded, but people advised me that it might not be a smart idea.
