Dustin Kensrue will be releasing a Christmas EP under the name The Modern Post next week. Pre-orders are available on iTunes.
Jason Tate on 11/18/14 - 07:49 PM
Dustin Kensrue has entered the studio and is currently recording the long anticipated follow-up to his 2007 solo debut, Please Come Home.
“Recording right now is for me the end of a long distilling process,” said Kensrue. “I always have bits and pieces of songs that are bouncing around in my head. I usually record them and listen back later, and most of the time I can’t remember why I even bothered to record them in the first place. But then there are the tunes that stick – the ones I find running over and over through my head, demanding to be finished. Begging for a home. The most persistent of these tunes from the past 8 years are what I’m busy recording right now, and there’s...

While we posted earlier about Dustin Kensrue's AMA on Reddit, we didn't specifically call out that he mentions a good possibility of Thrice writing music together and touring again. I feel like that should be mentioned.
Tour of some kind: very very likely. Recording of some kind: I hope so and suspect yes.

Dustin Kensrue blogged about why he opted to write a worship record and how it differs from previous songwriting efforts. His new record, The Water & The Blood, is available today.
I understand that in this form, these truths might have a glare to them that could be unpleasant for some at first glance. But I would encourage anyone who has been challenged or provoked by my songs in the past to listen to the new album in light of the framework I’ve outlined above.

I will definitely do more of a follow up to Please Come Home, I've been saying it for years, but I just haven't had a fair amount of material for it, so I threw it on the back-burner. So at this point, this was more of a priority and where I'm embedded, and what I'm trying to accomplish through Mars Hill Music. I do apologize to everyone who's waiting for a follow up to that record, it's not that I don't want to do it.

Dustin's posted an explanation on twitter about his new project, The Modern Post.
From the PostThe reason I want to make this clear, is that it would be sad to think that some of you would think that I am "going Christian," meaning, making poor music just for Christians, and ceasing to make music that engages with culture at large. I assure you that I hate the Christian art ghetto more than most, if not all of you. As I see it, Christians should make good art, that shows forth truth and beauty for all, or make art that is for a specific purpose within the church. Making subpar cheesy art for Christians to consume comfortably is a tragedy for everyone.

Dustin Kensrue of Thrice, discusses the hiatus, band dynamics, faith, and having Invisible Children out on tour with them.
From the InterviewI think the initial reaction when I talk about it has been a different feel because people do have those questions, they’ve heard this or that. So I try every night just to address that we’re not unaware of these things that are going around and we wouldn’t have them out with us if we didn’t have confidence that they were totally on the level. I mean, there was just some unfortunately timing with some stuff, and anytime anyone or anything gets elevated to such a high profile there’s just intense scrutiny and also a lot of ill will mostly...

From the InterviewI try to write in a way that people from multiple backgrounds can engage with at least, even if they don’t agree with it, and that it will make them think, it will make them feel... My hope is always that it wouldn’t leave someone unmoved in some way, that they would have to wrestle with it, that it would affect them in some way.

From the ArticleI think coming out of Beggars we had a ton of fun making that record and playing those songs live. So I think the next record will have the least jarring change that we have had between records for a long time. There will be definitely have its own sound as well but it will definitely be a less jarring experience.
