After a short time away from his View From the Back feature, Paul Shirley returns today with a look at the genius of Fucked Up. Paul recently saw the group perform at Kansas City's Middle of the Map festival, and he was apparently extremely impressed. Head to the replies to read Paul's thoughts on the show and, on a larger scale, the essence of the band. Remember you can email Paul about his columns for AP.net or get at him on Twitter.
Fucked Up's frontman Damian Abraham is not a fan of Katy Perry's new video, in which she plays a Marine. He recently tweeted, "Seeing Katy Perry as a soldier in 'Part of Me' really makes me think that we need to start a war so she can go die." A little while later he followed that up with, "Yes I'm aware my last tweet was kinda dumb but so is glamorizing war to sell records to idiots. Katy Perry Still Sucks."
Watch a new video from Fucked Up for their song "I Hate Summer/Fucked Up Holiday" in the replies. The song comes from their 7" split with The Dirtbombs which will be released by Bruise Cruise Music Festival's record label. Frontman Damian Abraham will also be cruise director of this fest, leaving Miami to the Bahamas on 2/10-13.
Head to the replies to watch a new Fucked Up (a.k.a. Animal Man) video for "Do You Feed?". The song comes from their David's Town compilation in which they portray themselves as different fictional British punk bands.
You can read some thoughts on Fucked Up's show at Chaos in Tejas this past weekend here. Be sure to check out the amazing David Comes to Life which came out this week. After reading this blog, I want you to ask yourself this: Why did I get into punk music?
