Hostage Calm have broken up.
Hostage Calm has broken up. It’s too soon, it’s too young, and it hurts too much. All planned shows are canceled. We are still figuring out if and when there will be any final shows. I want to personally thank every one of you who supported us over the years. You shared so much more with us than you’ll ever know. From our music to our politics, you helped make a bunch of Wallingford kids’ foolish dreams a reality. It was the great privilege of our young lives. To all of you who’ve connected with us, who’ve grown with us, who’ve loved, changed, cried, lived with us - and to all of you who will yet - Just know that we loved what we did, and we could never have...

This week Jason and I kind of nerd out with Tom Chiari, guitarist of Hostage Calm and Run For Cover Records label manager. We discussed the killer 2013 RFC is having thus far and a bunch of cool insider-type topics that most people may not know about smaller labels and how they operate. We also talk a little Hostage Calm as well.

You can subscribe to this podcast in a variety of ways: via iTunes, your own RSS feed (instructions below), or streaming/downloading the mp3 in the replies. You can also find our previous episodes on iTunes and SoundCloud. As always, we hope you enjoy.

Real Friends, Hostage Calm, Stickup Kid, On My Honor, and more have donated to the "_____ Saved My Life" Compilation, with the proceeds going to a family in Washington State whose father has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and will have multiple costly surgeries. The family has housed and supported countless bands over the years.

Update: The band has responded to this news. Read their statement in the replies.

A Hostage Calm fan named Alex was assaulted at a bar in North Carolina yesterday by another patron. The conflict centered around Alex's "I Support Same-Sex Marriage" T-shirt that has been the subject of other drama as well. We have a statement from Alex, which you can read an excerpt from below and fully in the replies, and we've also reached out to the band for a statement. We'll update this post when we hear something back.
I spoke up, because who you love has nothing to do with your religion or your political views. The guy was not happy. I went to smoke another cigarette and told the guy to leave...

Read my review of the Pawtucket, RI stop of The Wonder Years' current tour with Fireworks, Hostage Calm and Misser on March 9th here.
The Wonder Years put forth all of their energy at every show, but there's something special about seeing them in a small club. Both the band and the fans relished the intimate setting. Adding a strong line-up of genuine musicians - really, any band on the show could have headlined to a solid turnout - was merely the icing on the cake. Don't miss this tour if it's coming anywhere near you, because The Wonder Years probably won't be playing venues this small for a while.

Rocketown issued a brief statement regarding the recent Hostage Calm controversy.
StatementRocketown does not comment on personnel issues, but, generally speaking, an employee would not be fired for expressing opinions on marriage. At Rocketown we are welcoming and accepting of all youth. We reach out to all kids, are inclusive and very much care about acceptance of youth from different ethnicities, sexual orientations, financial backgrounds and religions. Our mission is to provide a safe and drug-free environment where kids are welcomed, accepted and loved.

An employee of the Nashville venue Rocketown was recently fired after 7 years of employment for wearing a Hostage Calm "I Support Same-Sex Marriage" shirt.
From the BandToday, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a longtime supporter of Hostage Calm and marriage equality was fired from his job at the Nashville music venue, Rocketown, for wearing his “I Support Same-Sex Marriage” shirt to work. A friend from Nashville contacted me about the situation and told me of Wes Breedwell, this seven-year employee of Rocketown who now finds himself the victim of discrimination. We called this brave man to hear his story, demonstrate our support, and figure out how we can help.

What I heard from him...

Hostage Calm have entered the studio with producer J. Robbins to record their new album, Please Remain Calm. It will be released in the fall via Run For Cover Records.
StatementI was waiting on a train that was never going to leave. 5 am in Baltimore Penn.

The sullen train car sank into the tracks. Wrinkled newspapers finally gave in to the sleeping passengers' laps. The seats creaked as the anxious teens and twenty-somethings wrestled with what was to come. The rumor was the track went out of service.

Everyone was tired of "the economy." No one knew who won the wars. Or how they were ever supposed to be won. Whoever still had the energy was arguing over whether America was...
