For the first time, I’m actually having a fairly hard time describing exactly what made this night and show so intense for me – aside form just the nature and content of the music, that is. Maybe it was the weather. Maybe it was that my hoodie wasn’t quite warm enough. Maybe it’s because I was at the show alone, which is rare. Whatever the reason, everything added up and the intensity and show just clicked. No matter what band you’re a fan of or what album or song catches your ear most, definitely go see this show if it comes near you.
Mansions' New Best Friends turned five yesterday, and Chris Browder from the band has written an emotionally heavy blog to remark the past few years since its release. In addition, the reissue of the album with an accompanying 7” is now on sale via Bad Timing Records.
Mansions’ debut full-length, New Best Friends – which is 5 years old today – is being reissued via Bad Timing Records with alternative artwork designed by frontman Chris Browder. The label is also releasing a never-before-pressed 7” with “The Biggest Lie” and “Tangerine,” two songs that came on a promo EP before NBF’s original release. The release date is tomorrow, March 4, and copies will go on sale at 1pm EST tomorrow as well. The vinyl is limited to 500 units – it’s long been out of print – with 300 on “dirty snow” (white with black color-in-color, see the photo) and 200 on black with white haze.
Mansions will release its third full-length, Doom Loop, on November 12 via Clifton Motel. A new song called "Climbers" is on Spin and in the replies.
"I want this record to be a kick in the teeth," Browder says in a statement. "I like pop songs, yet at the same time I like things a little fucked up and distorted. Might as well run the vocals through a guitar pedal."
Edit: We've updated the replies with the openers as well - there are quite a few. Man Overboard, Mansions, Gabriel The Marine, Transit and The Menzingers are all offering support on certain parts of the tour. There is one date where this tour combines with the Motion City Soundtrack / Jukebox The Ghost / Now, Now tour as well. - TN
