PureVolume sat down with Texas Is The Reason to discuss the band's final shows.
There was a period where we said, "Why say no? Let's keep the door open." But it's a lot of work to be in Texas is the Reason. [Laughs] It's so much fucking work and I can't have that window open while I'm focusing on other things, so I want that to be clear to the people who care about these shows. I don't want people to go, "Well, I thought they'd come back." Now that the songs are recorded and The Complete Collection is out, I really feel like our work here is done.

With just a single full-length, an EP, and a couple of singles in their catalog, Texas Is the Reason were living proof that longevity isn't required for a band to make an enduring impression. Letting go of the tough-guy posturing of their previous hardcore bands and turning toward decidedly more melodic and emotional waters, the band formed in 1994 and lasted just three short years, leaving behind precious little to remember them by, perhaps making each selection seem all the more special because of it. Not that their body of work isn't impressive in its own right-- the lone full-length Do You Know Who You Are? is a post-hardcore classic, with huge arena-filling guitars and enough heart...

Eleven years ago, today, Texas is the Reason played a show in Garrett's hometown of Buffalo, opening for our good friends in Snapcase. This morning, when we looked in our MySpace Inbox, Brandon wrote in to say that he has uploaded and posted a video of the show to his new weblog. It's worth a link:

Texas Is The Reason, live in Buffalo. April 20, 1996.

Also worth nothing: Do You Know Who You Are? came out that week. Eleven years ago, this week.

Finally, our talented friend and...
