Steve Soboslai admits that he's pretentious. As if fronting Punchline wasn't enough, he also releases his own music under the name Blue of Colors. He recently showed off his solo skills for our Backstage Sessions. Head to the replies to watch him perform acoustic versions of "Goodbye Stranger" and "Edward Norton."
Alex DiVincenzo on 05/31/12 - 05:50 AM

When we met up with Kurt Travis to shoot a new Backstage Session, he had a little surprise for us. Rather than playing something from his solo EP Wha Happen?, Kurt showed us a song so new it doesn't have a name. Head to the replies to hear him perform the untitled track, and catch him on tour with NeverShoutNever and Koji.
Jack Appleby on 05/01/12 - 07:01 AM
When you're a hybrid Pop-Rock/Chiptune band like I Fight Dragons, there's a certain fun to be had in performing "acoustic" renditions. The band was up to the challenge, showing off their infinite coolness with a (mostly) acoustic version of "cRaZie$" in our latest Backstage Session. It'll likely be the first acoustic sesh you've seen featuring Guitar Hero controllers, a Rock Band drum kit, and a Power Pad. Catch the band on Warped Tour this summer, and check the video in the replies. The band's got more in common with Motion City Soundtrack or The Starting Line than Game Boys.

Punchline did something a bit unorthodox for their backstage sessions: after their set, they sat on the stage and played a couple of acoustic tunes for the remaining audience. In addition to performing their song "Whatever I Want, Whenever I Want," the band's punk alter-egos, The Vipers, took over to play "PMFA." Head to the replies for the videos.

Since Dinner and a Suit are currently working on a new record, we were curious to find out how it's all coming along and what their new songs sound like. To keep us in the loop (and make me happy), they recorded an acoustic performance of a brand new song titled "Where We Started," which you can watch in the replies. Go check it out and let us know what you think about it. Perhaps, and hopefully, you will fall in love with them just as I have.

My first contribution to our Backstage Sessions comes in celebration of the release of Four Year Strong's upcoming album, Enemy of the World, on March 9th. For their Backstage Sessions, the guys in Closure in Moscow wanted to do things a little differently, a little more naturally. So we turned over some shopping carts and plunked down outside of a local Walgreen's and shot two acoustic videos, even getting help from some local music lovers. Head to the replies to hear killer versions of "Sweet#hart" and "Deluge" and sound off on the band's performance. I'd say these Aussies are the real deal.

Next week, we will be launching a new (hopefully regular) feature we will be calling Backstage Sessions. Nothing fancy - just a Flip camcorder recording talented bands doing acoustic or a capella versions of songs. Good Old War will be our first performer, playing a new song for us in addition to one of your choosing. So head over here and vote for what you want to hear.
