No Sleep Records has signed San Diego, CA alt-rockers Anakin. The band's No Sleep debut, Celestial Frequency Shifter, will see the light of day on February 3rd and is up for pre-order. The group draws influence from Weezer, HUM, Nirvana, Failure and The Rentals, all of which are reflected in their fuzzy, melodic sound.

Slingshot Dakota is featured on a very cool 7" split that comes out tomorrow via Soft Speak Records, for which they recorded a cover of Rainer Maria's "Rise." We are premiering the cover song in the replies, which is a very chill indie take on the tune that then turns into a slightly-less-chill-but-still-pretty-chill take on the tune when it kicks up a notch near the end. Slingshot Dakota's partner in crime on this split, which benefits Hopeline, an organization focused on suicide prevention and awareness, is Pet Symmetry, one of Emo Mayer Evan Weiss' many bands, whose contribution you can stream here. Northbound started in 2012 as the solo project of Jonathon Fraser of hardcore act Sleep Patterns. You may remember when we streamed their album Death Of A Slug back in April.
