Forbes interviewed Jared Leto of 30 Seconds To Mars and he discusses the band's financial woes and promotes the upcoming documentary Artifact. This documentary follows the band as they battle a $30 million lawsuit with their former label Virgin/EMI over a breach of contract.
"City Of Angels is a short film about this wild, weird, and wonderful land, Los Angeles, California. A place that has left its mark on the world's imagination and a place where dreams can actually come true. I made this short film so I could share my thoughts on this incredibly special place + talk to others about theirs. It's not so much about this particular city but more about the people who inhabit it. This is for the dreamers who know that sometimes the impossible is indeed possible," said Jared Leto.
Someone cut their ear off once and sent it to me, that was very strange. A whole ear. The Van Gogh move. The note just said, 'Are you listening?'. I never knew who it was, who's missing their ear out there." Asked what he did with the gruesome gift, meanwhile, he jokingly replied: "I poked a hole in it and wore it as a necklace" and then added: "Just don't put your entire body in a case and send it to us.
30 Seconds to Mars are gearing up to record their new album. The new album is a "dramatic departure from the past," says singer and songwriter Jared Leto, describing it as being "very orchestral, narrative, interactive and even more electronic than previous projects." Leto is once again producing the album along with several other producers including the return of Steve Lillywhite. The trio are working out of their studio in the Hollywood Hills dubbed 'ICAASS' (International Center for the Advancement of the Arts and Sciences of Sound) or 'The Lab' for short, as well as incorporating site specific recording in locations as far reaching as India, Africa, Yosemite, the California desert...
