Week one of Brian Fallon's recording with Butch Walker is in the books. Brian posted a blog update about the progress.
We’ve been starting every song out with acoustic guitar, vocal, bass, and drums live and then we pretty much build from there. It’s a great way to do it because as each thing goes on top you start to hear more and more of a finished song. We’re choosing each layer carefully and only putting on what we feel adds to the song, not just layering for the sake of slapping 32 guitars of the same part.

So far there’s been pianos, mandolin, a LOT of 12 string guitars (yes!), a banjo, and one song with pedal steel!!!! What?!? RULES! I’m from NJ, so I never heard pedal steel on...

Last week, I got a chance to chat extensively with a personal hero of mine, Butch Walker. We talked about Butch's new album, Afraid of Ghosts, including how the recent loss of his father inspired a new direction for his music, why he decided to have Ryan Adams produce the disc, and why his trademark sarcasm and upbeat songwriting is nowhere to be found. We also touched upon Walker's back catalog, the woeful reasons why no one should be expecting to find Letters on vinyl anytime soon, and why Butch's protege Jake Sinclair took over most of the production duties on the new Fall Out Boy LP.

Check out the interview here.

And so, I think after losing my father, it triggered writing a...

It's a new year... i've been wanting you to hear this new song i wrote.. i started writing a song after Big Butch passed away a year ago.. i just couldn't finish it without losing my words. my buddy Ryan Adams helped me really focus and finish the thoughts. needless to say, i think it might be the closest i have ever been to one of my songs (for obvious reasons). this one goes out to my Son AND my Dad.

I felt like a musical sponge growing up. Something would appeal to me and I would embrace it full-force. I think I'm a complete addict at heart. That's the reason I can't do drugs or anything like that because I go too hard with it, whatever I do. Musically I think it was the same thing. I couldn't just be bothered with one style or one kind of music or one instrument. No one scene, I guess you could say. There's too much good stuff out there to be inspired by.

Butch Walker just posted a bunch of tweets in a row addressing when fans think a producer changed a band and how Fall Out Boy and Panic! at the Disco don't want to keep making 90's pop-punk albums.
I love how people assume when I work with an artist that the actual ARTIST has nothing to do with deciding how it will sound. I love my day job, but these kind of shallow assumptions take some fun out of it. I've seen em say the producer "ruined their favorite band." ..When most people have no clue what they are talking about or how it works. Sometimes, God Forbid, the ARTIST comes in with their vision. Good on Panic and FOB for wanting to evolve and change. Most bands in their scene can't...
