We had the chance to speak with John Nolan about his new solo album, Sad Strange Beautiful Dream. Check it out here.
This album was ridiculously autobiographical. Iíve never written so many songs that were so directly about an exact experience that I had. That was something that happened (on this album). Generally, I think my songs are about myself. I think Iím limited in that way. I donít feel like I, so far anyway, have been able to put myself in a character's head or another personís head and been able to write from their perspective. I havenít felt like Iíve been good at that. So most of my songs end up being about me in some way or another.

John Nolan has a new album in the works, and it's all going to be funded through PledgeMusic. Don't know what PledgeMusic is or how it works? Neither did I, but it's pretty rad. Check out what John had to say about the site and what he has in the works for his upcoming solo record in our interview.
My last solo album came out almost 5 years ago now, and then Taking Back Sunday has put out 2 albums since then. A lot of what Iíve been working on has gone to Taking Back Sunday, but here and there Iíve had ideas for songs that Iíve put aside. In the past year there was a quick burst of stuff that came out after Taking Back Sundayís album that I was feeling like ďOh my gosh, here it isĒ,...

John Nolan has launched a PledgeMusic campaign for a new solo album.
For the past couple of years, between touring and recording with Taking Back Sunday Iíve been writing and demoing songs for a second solo record. Throughout this process Iíve worked with some great musicians who Iím lucky enough to call friends. Mike Strandberg, who plays with Kevin Devineís band has played guitar. Brian Bonz, a great singer songwriter has sang backing vocals. Iíve recorded some songs with Dylan Ebrahimian, who plays violin with Gabriel The Marine. Iíve also been working with Benjamin Homola, drummer for Dashboard Confessional and Bad Books. My wife Camille, whoís worked with me since I released my...

John Nolan is the guest on this week's Voice and Verse Podcast.
I donít know if you remember, but on the original demos we released, there was a song called ďItís Everybodyís Fault But MineĒ and one called ďA Slow Descent.Ē Those two were more about the experience of being in Taking Back Sunday, and I made a conscious decision to leave those off the record Ė not because of what I was saying in it or being too honest, but because people were overly obsessed with that. I had also just come off the Taking Back Sunday and Brand New ďfeud,Ē and that stuff got pretty old pretty quick to me.
