Read an interview with Joseph Marro of The Early November discussing new TEN material sounding like The Devil & God, how to survive as a young band in the scene, and managing artists like You Blew It! and Allison Weiss.
Yeah, I think this new record, if what we’ve done goes all the way through, will be our darkest record – a little less like “In Currents,” and even further away from that rock sound of “Frayed in Doubt,” but more…to compare it to another band, I think it almost sounds like [Brand New’s] The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me, which is cool because it’s not even an album we’ve listened to as a band, but it’s one we’re all familiar with. Mashable talks with some of the early 2000's "emo era" bands that helped bring the genre into the mainstream. You know, bands like The Early November, The Starting Line, and I Am The Avalanche.
For me, it was just what I happened to listen to. Pop music usually underwhelmed me, and true street punk music did not speak to me either. Pop punk felt just right. I could sing melodies that had emotion while still playing loud and fast.
